Madison (my tot) and I have a goal to meet 365 Moms & their tots.

Tot Mom #28

Jami & Trace — Start Your Engines

Jami and her husband, Mike, both grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. They met in middle school, running in the same circle of friends, yet weren’t the greatest of friends themselves. Once in high school, Mike began to grow fond of Jami and pursued her until she finally went out with him. They have been together since age 15 and have been married for 5 1/2 years. Mike has been racing since he was 8 and is now a professional driver racing in the Nascar sprint series and Nationwide. Jami is a stay at home mom, raising their little guy, Trace. Soon, Jami and Mike hope to add to their family by adopting a child from Honduras. She and Trace travel to 26 of Mike’s 36 races each year. When the family has free time, they enjoy hanging out with friends on their boat at Lake Norman and having cookouts. Date night usually consists of a double date with some friends to go bowling, play putt putt, or have dinner. Jami’s hobbies consist of being pampered for the day with a massage, manicure, or pedicure. She also loves doing a little shopping during her free “mommy time”.

Trace was named after his late grandmother, Tracy. He is 2 1/2 years old and goes by the nicknames Bubba or Buddy. This active tot enjoys going to playgrounds where he can climb, jump, and go down slides. Trace also loves his powerwheels, trying to race like daddy. He understands that his dad drives a racecar and likes to watch the races on television when he is not there. Another favorite show of his is Caillou, which features a cartoon of a little boy and his adventures. Trace has two sides to him, like most tots. One minute he is an angel, so sweet. The next minute, he turns defiant. Tots are all the same!

The hardest thing about being a Tot Mom is staying consistent and not giving in when your tot is having a defiant moment. The best thing is watching him react to new experiences. “His face lights up!”
